Insertable Oxygen Miniprobe

This fiber-optic miniprobe from PyroScience consists of a bare optical fiber with diameter of 250 µm and is optimized for measurements in samples with oxygen micro-heterogeneities like animal tissue, organs or soils. The sensing area covers a length of 3-5 mm at the sensor tip and measures smoothed oxygen levels over the entire sensor area. The miniprobe is delivered with an intravenous cannula for insertion into semi-solid samples.

Typical applications:

  • Measurements of smoothed oxygen levels in small & finely textured semi-solid samples like small animal organs & tissues
  • Measurements of smoothed oxygen levels in samples with oxygen micro-heterogeneities

Standard range. This sensor is specified for an optimum measuring range of 0 to 500 hPa oxygen (0 -250% air saturation). However, without specifications, it is possible to measure in up to 1 bar pure oxygen/100% oxygen saturation/100% oxygen. Bare polymeric optical fiber. The bare POF fiber is more robust than the optical fiber of our standard bare fiber sensors. The sensor comes without sensor housing, but is delivered with a compatible I.V. cannula for protected insertion into semi-solid samples.

Enlarged sensing area. The sensing area of this sensor covers a length of 3-5mm length at the sensor tip and enables measurements of smoothed oxygen levels in samples with micro-heterogeneities (in contrast to local point measurements with other mini- and microsensors).

ST-connector. This connector is our standard sensor connector for sensor compatible PC-operated and handheld FireSting devices.

Easy calibration. A simple ambient air calibration can be performed with a few clicks (<1 minute for equilibrated setup). For precise oxygen measurements close to 0% we also offer easy-to-use calibration capsules (OXCAL). Simply dissolve the content of one calibration capsule in 50 ml distilled water, wait 10-15 minutes, perform the 0% calibration and start measurements with a calibrated sensor.
